I and my Father are One!

Hi, everyone. It has been a while since my last post, but I am excited to share a new essay with you. Today, I wanted to share about when Jesus said in Chapter 10, verse 30, “I and my Father are one.”

I have been studying the book of John lately, and as I read, I was amazed by what was being revealed in the scriptures. When Jesus says, “I and my Father are one.” We are often taught that Jesus is claiming to be the Father, and I believe he is claiming that. But I also believe he is revealing more than just that. He is sharing a greater mystery that is often not recognized, a mystery that will change everything. A mystery that will set us free and send us down the path to completing our mission (never-ending mission) and discovering the true purpose of this journey we call life: finding out who you truly are.

So, what else is hidden in that line of John chapter 10, verse 30?

John 10:30  I and my Father are one. 

In John Chapter 14, verse 7, Jesus tells Thomas and his disciples, “If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.”  Philip responds, “Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.” Jesus then responds, “Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? He that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?”

What does he mean he who has seen me has seen the Father? The most common interpretation is that he is saying, “If you have seen me, you have seen me, the Father.” But is that really what he is saying? If we look at the Greek text, we can see that the Greek word used for “seen” is ὁράω (Strongs G3708), which is pronounced “hor-ah’-o” and defined by the Thayer Greek dictionary as meaning “To see with the eyes, to see with the mind, to perceive, know.” This definition tells us that the word seen could also mean “to see with the mind, to perceive, know,” So could it be that he is saying, “If you had seen me (if you understood that I am the truth born within you, the fruit of thy womb), then you would recognize who the Father is.” if the latter is correct, then he is not necessarily saying that he is the Father, but that you would know who the Father is if you understood the truth.

John 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 

Let us take a look at the next two verses:

John 14:10  Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. 

John 14:11  Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.

As I read these two verses and the verses that followed, I noticed something that stood out to me. Jesus was revealing possibly the greatest mystery of all.

At the beginning of John Chapter 14, Jesus says, “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” He says this because he is forewarning you about what is about to be revealed to you. He is saying do not be afraid about what you are about to hear.

John 14:1  Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 

Let’s take a closer look

In verse 10, Jesus begins by telling us that He (the Son) is in the Father and second that the Father is in him (the Son).

Now, let us take a look at verse 11. Jesus tells us (again) to believe that He (the Son) is in the Father and that the Father is in him (the Son).

You may wonder why I am pointing out #1, “the Son is in the Father,” and #2, “the Father is in the Son.” These scriptures are preparing us for a great reveal that will come in the following verses. 

Once you recognize what is being revealed, you will understand why Jesus says in verse 12 greater things than these shall you do.

John 14:12 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” 

You will also understand why Jesus says that if you ask in “my name,” he will do it so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You will understand the meaning behind Jesus saying, “That the Father may be glorified in the son.”

John 14:13  And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 

Spiritual Meaning Revealed

Verse 11 and 12 of John chapter 14 are setting us up to see the following (preparing us):

John 14:20  “At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.”

“In that day ye shall know” (the day that the understanding is made clear to you)

John 14:20 reveals that you are the Father, That Jesus (the Son) is in the Father, and that you (the Father) are in him (the Son).

But wait, that is not all. If you keep reading, you see that Jesus comes back and says I am in you. Jesus is going full circle and closing the loop, which puts you back in the number 1 position. Which is him saying that you (the Son) are in HIM, and He (the Father) is in you (the Son).

“ I and my Father are one.” 

Jesus is basically saying that HE is YOU and that YOU are HIM. He is saying that we are all him and that he is all of us. One God above all and in all. “In my Father’s house, there are many mansions.”

Eph 4:6  One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. 

After reading John 14:20, I could see that this was the third time Jesus talked about being in the Father and the Father being in him. Jesus mentioned this three times, which really caught my eye. Because “out of the mouth of two or three shall every word be established.” This is the hidden clue that is meant to be found by the reader so that the reader can understand the hidden lesson being revealed.

2 Corinthians 13:1  This is the third time  I am coming to you. In the mouth of two, (John 14:10 & John 14:11) or three witnesses(John 14:20) shall every word be established.

Why do we see God as being separate from us?

I know when we first see this, it might be something difficult to accept, and within our thoughts, we might hear, “Oh no, this is blasphemy.” but these thoughts are coming from the indoctrinated beliefs that we have been taught our whole lives, that Jesus is someone separate from you, that God lives somewhere faraway outside your reach. But is that true?

In scripture, we are told that “ye are the body of Christ” (1 Cor 12:27) and that “ye are the temple of God” (1 Cor 3:16). If we are his body and temple, then why are we taught that God is separate from us? Why is that the popular belief? The answer to this is because of the spirit of antichrist.

1 John 4:3  And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 

Whom do men say that I, the Son of man, am?

In the book of Matthew, Chapter 16,  Jesus asks his disciples, “Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?  They respond, “Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.”  Jesus then asks them, “But whom say ye that I am?” Simon Peter answers, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Mat 16:16  And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 

Jesus responds, “Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.”  Jesus’ response was confirmation that what Simon Peter was saying was true.

 So what is Jesus revealing here?

Jesus is revealing that Man and God are one and the same. The Son of Man is also the Son of the Living God. 

“I and my Father are one.”

I hope what I shared blesses you as much as it has blessed me. For many, this might be the first time hearing something like this, and it may even sound scary or blasphemous. I know, at first, I thought it was. But I could see it throughout the scriptures once it began to make sense. The scriptures became clearer than ever. It’s like the scriptures become open to you. 

I will leave you with some food for thought. If Jesus and you are one, why did Jesus say?:

John 14:28  Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
